Carbohydrates 101

How many times have you heard someone say "I don't eat carbs"?

People inherently are under the assumption that carbs make you fat. This couldn't be farther from the truth.

Too many calories make you fat.

Carbs are your fuel source. Without carbs you become fatigued, lethargic, and your gym performance will suffer.

I have a client who thought he was supposed to eliminate carbs. He came to workout as usual and his workouts were starting to suffer. He wasn't as energetic as he usually was. He was weaker than he was a few weeks ago. I asked about his diet. He said he has eliminated carbs. My response...."WHY!?!?"

He told me that he thought that was what he was supposed to do for better nutrition and to lose weight. That's the problem. People think that eliminating carbs is the answer but it isn't. I told him to EAT CARBS. He was very happy I said that because eliminated carbs is no easy task. Your body craves and NEEDS carbs.

So what happened? He added carbs back into his diet. His energy level went up, his gym performance went up, he is now lifting more weight then he ever thought was possible.

He was shocked that carbs can have such an effect on the body (good by eating them, and bad from eliminating them).

Don't be dumb! Understand that carbs are fuel and understand that an excess in calories is the issue, not carbs.
